Christmas is coming, had you think of what to give for your wife? I have a suggestion for you. How about the Vacuum Cleaner? I know it is a bit weird to give your wife a vacuum cleaner as Christmas gift. But let’s think, with this vacuum cleaner, you are actually helping your wife to do fewer jobs and able to spend more time with family. Isn’t this sound good?
I have two cousins who moved into their own places this year and I was thinking that they would love to get a vacuum as well. We all have to clean right? It seems like a perfect gift for those two as I make out my Christmas List this year. I’m also looking for discounts any way I can get them so I did some research and came upon EzVacuum.com, possibly the largest vacuum cleaner and accessory dealer I’ve seen on the net. This site has everything you could possibly imagine in every model and make.
Right now the site is offering vacuum cleaners bags belts filters brushrolls machines all at a discount of 10%. Simply log onto the site and when you’re done shopping enter the code EZVCAC10 to apply the discount on any order over $20.00. Stem Cell
When I was young, I used to hear a lot about stem cell researches going on. In the media and entertainment industries, script writers and movie producers try to portray these medical innovations into movies far beyond imaginations of humankind. Authors write medical fiction on this stem cell topic, giving so many room for readers to picture what is it like if stem cells really can make a huge success in the medical world. I have always been amazed at this innovation About the Science.
As I grow older, I learn that stem cell researches are no longer just imaginations, fiction or ‘as seen in the movies’. I started to realise that in reality, there are very real researches going on. Stem cells are considered the most ‘pluripotent’ of all cells, in layman, that means these cells have the capacity to be grown into almost any type of cells, given the right ’signals.
This is one of the most exciting medical discovery, giving scientists the reason to explore in depth into the possibility that one day, stem cells can be grown to replace cells that harm human or cause diseases of the body. Recently, I read that women can greatly benefit from this stem cell research. Just imagine - stem cells can be harvested from menstrual blood every month! Those cells can be harvested and later on helped when the particular woman needs healthy cells in the future. Seems like some medical fiction? Maybe no longer. Medical revolutions have been booming so much lately that one day, these genius discoveries can be used in sports treatment and cosmetic purposes. I am almost certain these revolutions would be realised in the very near future. Give a few years, and we shall see.

AMD's ATI Radeon HD 4800 Graphics Shipping in High-Performance PCs
AMD announces that high-performance PCs from a wide array of leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system integrators (SIs) are now delivering immersive game play thanks to the ATI Radeon HD 4800 line of graphics cards. The ATI Radeon HD 4800 series is available in numerous configurations, including systems based on AMD Phenom X3 and AMD Phenom X4 processors as well as Intel Core i7 and Core2 processors.
To date, the ATI Radeon HD 4800 series has sold nearly two million units. The momentum continues with a growing list of high-performance gaming systems announced by OEM partners including Acer, Fujitsu Siemens, Gateway, HP, and Medion. In addition, Alienware, Falcon Northwest, Velocity Micro, Maingear, CyberPower, iBuyPower, Commodore Gaming, ExtremePC, Biohazard, Puget Systems and many other system integrators have announced systems shipping with ATI Radeon HD 4800 series graphics.
Across the board, the new designs cater to the computer user interested in The Ultimate Visual Experience while playing the latest video game titles, editing videos and photographs, and watching high definition content. Personal computers supercharged with an ATI Radeon HD 4800 series graphics card can enable the type of immersive experience that is driving the continued growth of PC gaming.
“The tremendous reception for the ATI Radeon HD 4800 line of graphics cards is yet another indication that PC gaming is not only alive, it is thriving,” said Randy Stude, president of PC Gaming Alliance. “Interest in high-end personal computers with powerful graphics cards is directly connected to PC gamers wanting to experience every last visual detail of today’s cutting-edge games. With an estimated one billion personal computers globally by the end of 2008, and great products like the ATI Radeon HD 4800 series, there is every reason to believe 2008 worldwide PC gaming hardware revenues could reach or surpass the 2007 high-water mark of $43.4 billion.”
The new OEM and SI designs cover a broad spectrum of choices, from single card configurations utilizing the tremendous performance per dollar leadership of the ATI Radeon HD 4850 through to the world’s fastest quad GPU configurations delivered by combining the sheer might of two ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphics cards utilizing ATI CrossfireX technology.
“From support for cutting-edge technologies such as DirectX 10.1 to HDMI 7.1 Audio, the full line of ATI Radeon HD 4800 graphics cards can help enhance the overall experience delivered by any computer system in which it is included,” said Rick Bergman, vice president and general manager, Graphics Products Group, AMD. “Customers have clearly stated that they want high-performance graphics, and partners are turning to the ATI Radeon HD 4800 series to deliver.”
The ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
ATI Radeon HD 4850: The first graphics card to deliver a full TeraFLOPS of compute power, the ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card has quickly established itself as the card of choice for under $200.
ATI Radeon HD 4870: The ATI Radeon HD 4870 has the distinction of being the first commercial product to utilize cutting-edge GDDR5 memory. The use of a GDDR5-based frame buffer effectively doubles the memory bandwidth relative to the previous generation of GDDR4 memory, significantly enhancing the performance of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics card.
ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2: The ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 is the epitome of design efficiency. By combining two highly efficient graphics processors on a single graphics board, AMD has made it possible to substantially improve performance over single GPU solutions. As a testament to the strength of this design approach, the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 has received recognition as the “world’s fastest graphics card” from technology enthusiasts around the world.
Partner Quotes

Bluetrek Metal Bluetooth Headset
If Kate Moss, the famously thin supermodel, had an equivalent in a Bluetooth headset, that will surely have to be the latest Bluetrek Metal. A definite head turner, KJC's foray to strengthen their hold in the local Bluetooth market has just gotten that much stronger based on our initial impressions.
Cool Thin Mint
If the box was anything to go by, the Bluetrek Metal's pedigree of a product by a famous designer shows. Right from the start the packaging gave us mixed feelings; on one hand, the design was fabulous, on the other, we had a hard time trying to take out the entire package, with only one usable opening on the top of the box.
Once we managed to get to the Bluetrek Metal, we cannot help but marvel at the amazingly thin (4mm thick body!) and light headset, and the aluminum body seems solid enough to withstand drops (not that we did try, though we wished we did). Accessories within the package include a USB adapter for charging the headset and a clip holder, which is oddly out of place with the Bluetrek's sleek design. Suffice to say, you will probably avoid using the clip if you wish to retain the cool factor of the Metal. According to KJC, an AC adapter will be bundled together with the package once it is available in the market.
Metallic, not Tinny
The actual unit is one of the sleekest headset we have ever seen, with only 3 tiny buttons found at the tip of the headset. Pairing is easily done by pressing and holding the middle button for a few seconds until the unit's well concealed LED (near the mic) starts flashing red and blue. Voice quality is generally good, with both parties having no issues when having the conversation in a moving vehicle along the expressway. However, within enclosed space, we noted a slight static on both ends of the conversations, which could probably be due to the thickness of the walls.
Minimal as they may be, the 3 tiny buttons presented foreseeable challenge when we were having a conversation while driving. With the small buttons so closely packed, our attempts to lower the volume actually ended the conversation prematurely. This, however, is more of an issue of adapting to the device rather than a deal breaker for the product in our opinion. Battery life is generally acceptable; it should last you for a day with sporadic phone calls, but nothing more.
Ending the Call
So, is it worth your money? Frankly, the Bluetrek Metal is probably one of the slimmest Bluetooth headsets you can get from the market now, and with a RRP of only S$88, you will be hard pressed to find another headset in such a thin stylish package at under S$100.
Granted, it does not come with noise canceling features, nor does it support the A2DP profile seen on many other stereo Bluetooth headsets, but unless you really need those features, the looks of envy you'll get with the Bluetrek Metal will more than make up for that.

Rumors of Touch-less Gesture Control in Future Nokia Devices
We know touch screen technology is now widely adopted and well accepted by the consumers. Windows 7 will be designed and optimized for touch interface. Windows Mobile devices are seeing enhanced touch user interfaces such as HTC's TouchFlo 3D. But what will get your noggins cooking, is a possible touch-less gesture control that utilizes ultra-sound sensors to detect and register gesture input. As we scoured the web for the latest news, we spotted something interesting from this Engadget post: apparently, it seems like Nokia has filed for a patent application for such a concept. Imagine, in the near future, you have people gesturing in thin air when they're using their phones.
Engadget - Usually when we're talking about Nokia and patents, a mention of Qualcomm can't be far behind. This time however, we're looking at something entirely less boring, fascinating even: ultra-sound sensors that detect hand gestures in the air in front of the device.

Altec Lansing Unveils New Brand and Design Identity
Altec Lansing Unveils New Brand and Design Identity
New Logo, Website and Fall Collection Pay Tribute to Company's Legacy of Stereo Innovation
Altec Lansing (www.alteclansing.com), a division of Plantronics, Inc., has launched a major re-branding program designed to communicate the company's unique and rich history of groundbreaking audio innovation.
The new brand identity, developed by the internal Industrial Design team of Plantronics and Altec Lansing, includes a new logo, re-designed website and premium product collection to celebrate the company's technical leadership and commitment to professional, high-performance sound.
"In looking at ways to make our brand stand apart from the pack, we found ourselves continuously looking at past products as a way to communicate the high level of performance that Altec Lansing delivers," said Darrin Caddes, vice president of Industrial Design for Plantronics. "What we learned was that we didn't really need to reinvent the brand - but 'reset' it - because from its inception our objective has always been to deliver the best possible acoustic performance within the realm of personal stereo equipment."
The campaign kicks off with a new corporate logo designed as a tip of the hat to the lines of the multi-cellular horn, an iconic Altec Lansing speaker architecture that has influenced professional speaker system design for over 50 years.
Also drawing technical and aesthetic inspiration from the company's 70-year product history is the Company's new collection featuring five personal audio speaker systems.
Altec Lansing's spectacular looking and sounding Expressionist(TM) BASS
(SGD$219) is the first-ever true 2.2 PC speaker system while the stylishly designed Expressionist(TM) CLASSIC (SGD$139) comes with unique cylindrical cabinets housing 3-inch drivers to deliver a full spectrum of pure and distinct sound.
The Moondance HOME speaker system (SGD$189) delivers crystal clear sound in a space-saving design. Wake to your iPod, radio or alarm with progressive alert volume. Use the onboard controls for the sleep timer, dual alarms, snooze, radio tuning or enjoy the convenience of the full-function remote.
The Moondance HOME speaker system also charges your iPod so it is good to go for that morning jog or commute to work.
Also new is the Moondance GLOW (price to be advised) an iPod/MP3 clock radio system that lets you set the mood with a soothing, diffused lighting effect at the back.
Lastly, the re-designed Orbit (SGD$69) is an ultra-portable single-driver mini speaker with amazingly big sound. With a rugged new design, the Orbit offers instant connectivity and 24-hours of continuous play from any digital audio device including iPhones, iPods or laptops. Weighing in at less than 200 grams, the diminutive, single-driver Orbit MP3 delivers a surprisingly clear, rich 360-degree field of full-spectrum sound without distortion.
"Altec Lansing's 70-year legacy of professional grade audio technology has enormous equity among audio experts," said Vicki Marion, president Altec Lansing. "But we acknowledge that the brand and design DNA needed modernization to compete in an increasingly commoditized consumer electronics market. With this new performance-inspired look we expect consumers all over the world to immediately recognize the incredible influence that Altec Lansing's expertise and passion for sound has had on the audio technology industry."

Visit start up
How long time needed for your computer to boot up? 30 seconds? For my com, it is like 2 minutes! And that is considered fast!
But now. Vista boot up in 4 seconds!! Read the news below.
ASRock achieves this minor of miracles through manipulation of the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface that Microsoft manipulates for its sleep and hibernate modes. At the risk of oversimplification, ASRock appears to add the processing baggage to the backend of the shutdown process, essentially rebooting the OS and then dropping it into a suspended state ready to instantly pop on the next time you hit the power button.

Zenni Optics
I know I had spoke about Zenni Optics lots of time in my blog, but this time I want to share this news with you all again.
As we all know, Zenni Optics is one of the 1st in the world who sell specs to customers online. Besides that, it is one of the online stores that provide cheapest spectacles. Many of you might wonder that why can they selling those specs at such a low price, are they low in quality? Pirated? 2nd handed? None of them, they can give us such a low price is all because of they get their stocks directly from the manufacturers, so deducting the middleman expenses, we can get the low price but same quality specs!
I found an article from Chicago Tribune, the author also support that buying spectacles from Zenni Optics is an ideal solution.
I love Zenni Optics, not because of their low price, but also wide selections of eyeglasses. They are really success in this. They also provide you with different type of lens, for example single vision lens, bifocal lens, photosensitive lens and lots more. You can choose it when you purchase your spectacles.

Samsung G400
The Samsung G400: a phone with a clamshell form factor and a dual screen design. If this sounds oddly similar to the Sony Ericsson W980 Walkman phone, your guess is right. But the G400 comes with some discernible differences from the W980, which we'll be exploring in the next few minutes.
Clamming Up
Sharing the same dimensions as its internal screen at 2.2-inches, the G400's external TFT screen can support 262K colors, and here comes the sweet part: it's a touch screen. Though classified under its Style range of mobile phones, the G400 has a heavier focus on its music and imaging capabilities, and as such, the external touch screen provides easy access to these two features, such as its Music Player, FM Radio, Camera and Album.
Touch sensitivity was decent and with the aid of its haptic feedback, we didn't have much trouble with the navigation of the external touch screen. In case you're wondering if the device can be activated with an accidental touch, there's a dedicated Hold button on its right profile. Moreover, this button is flush with the device and thus is unlikely to be unlocked by accident.
Further up from the Hold button, there's the proprietary port used for USB data and audio connectivity. Frankly, we would have wished for a 3.5mm audio connection, but given for a fact that the G400's dimensions come at a thin 15.2mm, we figured that squeezing in a 3.5mm audio jack along the device would have marred its sleek design. On its opposing side (to the left) are the microSD slot and the volume button. With the device in its closed position, the G400 definitely felt thin and light in one's hands.
Flipping Out
Clamshell phones are meant to be flipped, period. Whilst you might want to be a bit of an exhibitionist and try to flip the device open with just one hand using your thumb and one other finger as the fulcrum, it is usually more prudent to go with both hands. Once we opened the G400, we faced a flat keypad that gave us some problems with text messaging.
Unfortunately, we faced a bigger challenge: the flat five-way navigation pad's unbalanced design such that the Up and Down buttons are given less space than the Left and Right buttons, thus giving rise to accidental hits on the OK button when you're navigating up and down.
What really struck us as an oddity is the positioning of the 5-megapixel camera. Located along the hinge of the device, the camera essentially follows the hinge's movement, and thus, it actually moves with the hinge and will be facing you instead (similar to its secondary camera for video calls), whilst when the phone is closed, the lens would be positioned at the rear of the device. This would probably be well-liked by fans of self-portraits, but for the rest, you'll have to flip the phone into its closed position to utilize the camera for normal shots.
Besides its 5-megapixel resolution, the G400 includes some of the niftier camera features found on its other high-end camera phone siblings, such as Smile Detection, Anti-Shake and Wide Dynamic Range, plus ISO settings of up to 800. With such features, we were expecting images to turn out pretty decent. Truth is, images were of an acceptable range, but you won't be using it for dedicated photography anytime soon due to its high noise level.
The audio fidelity, however is another story. While we bemoan the use of a proprietary connection for its audio jack, we stuck with the bundled inner earpiece, and were pleasantly surprised with its quality. Running the device through various tracks of heavy beats and light tunes on its default equalizer settings, we were returned with sufficient levels on the lows and mids, and for that extra kick, the integrated equalizer settings manage to enhance the audio experience, with its Surround and Dynamic settings.
More importantly, the G400 was able to hit the one and a half day mark, with up to almost 4 hours of music playback and ample amount of calls and messages being sent and received.

Microsoft Mini Mouse
Most of you might not be aware, but apart from being a software giant, Microsoft is equally strong in the hardware business too. In fact, they've been in the hardware business for over 25 years. In particular, Microsoft have been strong in mouse technology, having popularized the scroll wheel and introduced the world's first optical mouse.
Not wanting to rest on its laurels, Microsoft has now developed what they call the "world's most advanced tracking technology", simply named "BlueTrack". BlueTrack technology is found in the latest Explorer mice (which will now emit a bluish light as a result) and according to Microsoft, this technology will allow these new Explorers to work over surfaces which would stump other mice.
BlueTrack?
Microsoft doesn't reveal much about the underlying technology of BlueTrack, only that it works thanks to a Microsoft-designed imaging sensor which allows the mouse to generate a high-contrast picture of the surface, resulting in exceptional tracking accuracy. This is also why it can track over surfaces like carpet, granite and marble, which would have other mice stumped. And if you are wondering, no, it still won't be able to track across clear glass or mirrors.
Does it work? To be sure, it does, we tested it over nearly everything we found in our labs, carpet, anti-static bags, boxes and even on our jeans and pants, and found that the Explorer Mini handled all that quite brilliantly. Unfortunately, our enthusiasm faltered when we tested regular mice and found that they too could track over these surfaces as well, albeit slightly inferior to the Explorer mouse. This puts a bit of a damper on the Explorer Mini.
Beyond BlueTrack
Thankfully, the Explorer Mini has other things to look forward to beyond its BlueTrack tracking sensor. The Explorer Mini is a wireless mouse that makes use of a USB transceiver and the smart thing about it, is that the USB transceiver can be conveniently snapped onto the bottom of the mouse to turn it off and for easy storage. Microsoft also claims that the 2.4GHz wireless technology is capable of delivering a reliable connection up to a distance of 30 feet. Our only gripe is that the Explorer Mini requires an AA battery for operation. But it has a claimed battery life of around 4 months, so replacing it shouldn't be that much of a hassle.
Secondly, we found the shape of the mouse to be suitably ergonomic. It felt natural to use and even after many hours of use, our wrists did not feel strained or numbed. Additionally, it is also designed to be neutral in orientation, so left-handed users can heave a sigh of relief.
The Explorer Mini has two additional buttons apart from the standard left and right buttons and the scroll wheel. They are customizable of course, but by default, they serve as dedicated back and forward buttons for web-surfing. Also, the buttons on the mouse felt solid and chunky enough to handle even the manic clicks of a child high on sugar.

LG KC910 Renoir 8-Megapixel Camera Phone
A Blast of Sound
By Seow Tein Hee
From last year's LG Viewty, to the upcoming LG KC910 Renoir, we have seen an evolution in the Korean chaebol's camera phone lineup. With the introduction of a new 8-megapixel device that pits itself against rival offerings such as the Samsung INNOV8 and the Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C905, things will definitely get interesting, as you'll see in this review.
Goodbye Buttons, Hello Smudges
Much like the earlier Viewty, the KC910 focuses heavily on touch navigation, made all the more easy with its flushed 3.0-inch screen. Minimal buttons are presented on the device's chassis, with only the necessary ones such as Call and End besides a button that brings you to a customizable menu and task manager. Were it not for the 114g weight and its 14mm thicker profile, some may mistake the KC910 for the iPhone due to its glossy black and metallic silver design. Similarly, you'll see a gratuitous amount of fingerprints on the screen and edges.
Connection ports, unfortunately, are LG's proprietary connection for data and audio connectivity, located at the left profile just above the microSD slot that supports SDHC of up to 8GB. On the opposite end, the camera button is located just below the Hold key, which also doubles as the image stabilizer button for the 8-megapixel camera that's protected by a swiveled lens cover.
The Sound of Imaging
The LG KC910 gave us quite a few surprises (both the good and the bad). For one, the touch screen's responsiveness is less than desirable for the thumb, but with the use of your fingertips or the stylus, the experience won't be that jarring. Exploring further, we find a similar user interface as the Viewty, which required an extensive amount of touching that worsened this issue.
The multimedia experience, however, is miles apart from what we've experienced earlier with the touch screen. Just before we unboxed the KC910, we noticed a little icon called Dolby Mobile. This definitely got us intrigued, so we went into its music player, and we found our ears treated to a better audio delivery with the Dolby Mobile mode. Bass and treble was aptly amplified and unlike other stereo widening effects, the one we heard with the Dolby Mobile managed to produce an even and pleasant effect without appearing hollow.
Through all this audio testing, which included active connectivity options such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth data transfer bundled with cellular usage, the KC910 lasted for almost a day and a half on its 1000 mAh battery.
With all your appetites whetted, it's time to reveal the real star of the KC910: the 8-megapixel camera. But it wasn't as shining as we had thought. Taking the standard resolution and color chart tests, we noticed that the KC910 returned readings of LPPH 1000 on the vertical axis, scoring better on the horizontal axis with a reading of 1100. Colors were adequately saturated, though it seems as though the colors were slightly towards the cooler spectrum. We'll let the images do the talking with a few sample shots below, taken on Auto settings.
A Sound (Not Pictorial) Conclusion
The LG KC910 Renoir was definitely a bag full of surprises for us. Introduced as LG's first 8-megapixel camera phone, we found it's strength not to be on the imaging capability, but its impeccable audio delivery. However, there are a few issues that could break the deal for the consumers, namely its interface lag and lack of responsiveness with its touch screen, especially so when the user depends solely on its touch screen capability for navigation.

Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W PSU
Quad Powered
When we mention the Italian word for four, 'Quattro', the first association among English speakers is most likely to be that of the Quattro, a well-known rally car model from Audi. Car buffs may also know that 'quattro' refers to the four-wheel drive system found on an Audi automobile. In tagging its premium PSU series with a similar 'quattro' moniker, is Antec hoping to carry over that positive impression? Let's find out, shall we?
High-End SLI Action
While it's not stated explicitly by Antec, we venture to guess that the 'quattro' in this Antec PSU series refers to the four 12V output rails that splits the rather impressive power output of the PSU. Although PSUs with high wattages are more common than before, the 1000W rating for this Antec still puts it as one of the more powerful units currently in the market. The four 12V rails themselves contribute up to 840W of power.
Meanwhile, with its appropriate number of 8-pin and 6-pin PCIe connectors, the Quattro has both the power and the right connectors for the highest end possible SLI rig of a pair of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 280 graphics cards. Of course, this means that ATI's CrossFire is also supported, even if there is no formal certification.
Playing the Efficiency Card
It's a badge of honor now to be power-efficient and Antec has been one of the earlier vendors to achieve 80 PLUS certification for its products. For the case of the Quattro, it is rated at 85% efficiency, putting it above the minimum 80% required and earning a decent Bronze accolade from the 80 PLUS programme. With Gold the highest possible certficiation however, the Antec Quattro still has some way to go.
This power efficiency and the resultant lower operating temperature of this PSU means that Antec was able to include a modest 80mm cooling fan that is extremely quiet and which barely produced any noise when we tested it. The PSU itself is shorter and slightly smaller than some other competing models we have seen, so users should find it easy to install in any standard ATX chassis.
Next, another important feature that's part and parcel of a modern PSU is the presence of a modular cable management system. Cable clutter is drastically reduced with modular cables that are only plugged in when needed. Along with this convenience are also various standard, protective circuitry that enable the PSU to emerge relatively unscathed in scenarios like over-current, over-voltage and short-circuit.

Microsoft Arc Mouse
Sexy and stylish are two words that you'll rarely find paired with a computer mouse. Cool and funky maybe, but never sexy and stylish. But why can't a computer mouse be sexy and stylish? Indeed, why not?
Launched simultaneously with the Microsoft Mini Explorer, this is the aptly named Arc Mouse (no prizes for guessing why). Clearly designed with the style-conscious in mind, the Arc Mouse is by far the funkiest looking mouse we've seen in some time. Join us as we take a closer look to see if it has the substance to match its looks.
For Fashionistas
For fashionistas who have had to make do with less than inspired mouse designs and whose only solace was that at least some mice came in a variety of colors, all this is about to change.
Enter the Arc Mouse, a simple yet elegant mouse that looks like no other. Who would have thought a mouse could be designed like so? The Arc mouse is instantly sure to turn heads and attract attention. It is also clad in a material that gives it a textured feel. It's nice to look at and touch, but beware of greasy fingers and sweaty palms. They will leave stains that are hard to remove.
The party trick of the Arc Mouse is its ability to fold into half. When folded, it is 60% of its original size, which should make for easy storage and added portability.
No Pain, No Gain
While the Arc Mouse definitely looks unique, it does have its shortcomings. The price for its distinctive looks is that the Arc Mouse is somewhat awkward to use. The stylish but odd shape means that to get a good grip of the mouse, one needs to wrap the entire hand around the whole arch to register mouse clicks properly. What this means is that instead of using your wrist to control mouse movements, you are now using your entire hand. Some may find this more favorable, because it reduces strain on the wrist, but we found it tiring.
The Arc Mouse is also very thin, which means that there is less real estate for fingers to hold on to. In most other mice, our little fingers would be resting by the sides of the mouse, but on the Arc Mouse, it was left trailing about uncomfortably. This necessitates a rather radical change in the way the user holds the mice. For us, even after spending weeks with it, we still found it uncomfortable to use.
Another problem arising from the Arc Mouse's thin design is when we tried pressing its side button. By default, the side button performs the 'back' function on whatever browser you are using. But because the mouse is so thin, you'll inadvertently tense your index and middle fingers for a better grip when clicking the side button and in the process, you may unintentionally click the left and right buttons instead.
Final Thoughts
The Arc Mouse might be a stunner, but to use it proficiently requires a rather drastic change in the way you hold your mouse. Even then, it can be awkward and uncomfortable. In a way, it is the PC peripheral equivalent of the stiletto heels.

HTC S740
Mention non-touch screen smartphones and the usual association is a Symbian S60 device, but a less known fact about Windows Mobile is its Standard edition, which is a non-touch screen version of Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. Being a smartphone manufacturer, HTC has to cover all its bases, and that's what it did with the introduction of the HTC S740, also known as the Rose.
Longing for It
Measuring 43.4mm long, the S740 is one of the longest devices in HTC's lineup, even more so than the recently released HTC Touch Pro. Likewise, the S740 adopts the shine and luster as seen on the HTC Touch Diamond, minus the glossy (and fingerprint smudges) backing. Unfortunately, its front panel which consists of a 2.4-inch 240 x 320 resolution QVGA screen, and a 12-key numeric keypad, will still be prone to fingerprints.
Speaking of which, we were pleasantly pleased with the keypad. Flat as it may be, messaging remained fast and accurate. The issue with the S740 though, is its Call and End buttons. In their attempt to fit everything nicely on the remote-control like device, HTC made the primary call buttons too small and raised too high. This leads to situations where you'll be hitting the call buttons more often than not when you are reaching for its two softkeys, Home and Back button just above and below both the Call and End buttons.
Unlike the Touch Pro's design, the S740's slide-out QWERTY keyboard is designed with one less row and is a four row keyboard instead, more so to fit the width of the device. With its lengthy dimension, you'll notice that the keyboard is wider, and unfortunately, makes it much harder to reach the keys at the extreme ends. Furthermore, the two softkeys are situated rather close to the top edge, thus requiring one to utilize the fingernails to reach them.
There's actually one last issue we had with the HTC S740: the SIM card and microSD slot location. Our first attempt in locating both card slots was a botched one, right after we removed the battery and found it to be empty. Failing which, we slid the device and noticed a small panel at the underbelly of the display. Once we opened it, the first thing that hit us, was the "unique" positioning of the card slots. Essentially, the microSD slot rests below the SIM card holder, and what this means, is that you'll be required to remove your SIM card before you can access your microSD card should you wish to swap it.
Smooth Sailing
Putting aside the above mentioned design grouses, the S740 managed to remove the frowns from our faces and gave us a few reasons to smile, one of which is its technical specifications. Similar to its sibling devices, the S740 runs on a Qualcomm MSM7225 528MHz processor. It's also sufficiently packed with 256MB of both RAM and ROM, and this definitely showed in its application handling when we scrolled through its interface in a manner which can be only described as smooth.
Besides the myriad collection of Home screens such as the Sliding Panel and Sliding Panel Media, HTC also added in their HTC Home screen to fit the black hue of the S740's exterior. This was also where the Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard operating system shone, being a major update to its previously less intuitive Windows Mobile 6 interface. With the sliding panels that allow one to squeeze more shortcuts and access routes via a single panel, we gained access to the S740's multimedia and wireless features in a matter of seconds.
While we're on the topic of features, the S740 is also very well equipped for a device of its size, with connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, HSDPA and even GPS. As with all devices that are small in stature, we didn't set our hopes up too high for its 1000mAH battery, but surprisingly, the S740 managed to last up to almost a day and a half with normal usage.

Fujitsu Launches World's First 256-bit AES Encryption 500GB HDD
Fujitsu Asia today announced the MJA2 CH series of Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) hard disk drives (HDDs) for the ASEAN and India markets.
The series is the world’s first 500-gigabyte (GB) HDD line to incorporate hardware-based support for the 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), for enhanced security and improved performance compared to software-based encryption.
With on-board AES support, the HDDs automatically encrypt and decrypt data during read and write operations respectively. Unlike software-enabled regimes, the series’ hardware-based approach does not require encryption keys to be loaded onto the computer’s memory, for improved system performance and enhanced data security.
Data stored on the MJA2 CH series can be securely erased in less than one second, offering significant time savings when formatting HDDs for reuse or disposal.
Developed in line with Fujitsu’s Green Policy Innovation program to promote energy-efficient IT products and services, the MJA2 CH series sets new industry benchmarks for energy efficiency and environmental conservation. The HDDs require only 1.4 watts of power to perform write operations, compared to 2.1 watts or more for earlier Fujitsu HDDs. The series is also Fujitsu’s first halogen-free HDD line, making it an environmentally-friendly product range throughout its entire lifecycle.
“With the growing problem of data theft and misappropriation, the need for enhanced data security is now higher than ever. As climate change and environmental conservation emerge at the forefront of the global agenda, eco-friendly IT products will receive greater attention from end-users. The MJA2 CH series of hard disk drives addresses both concerns by combining superior data security features with environmentally-friendly characteristics,” said Mr Loh Chong Shing, Regional Senior Vice President of Fujitsu Asia.
The MJA2 CH series is designed with a 2.5-inch form factor and a spindle speed of 5,400 revolutions per minute (rpm). The HDDs offer a maximum data throughput rate of 3 gigabits per second (Gbps), as well as average read and write times of 12 milliseconds (ms) and 14ms respectively. Other product features include:
- large buffer sizes
- high shock tolerance
- near-silent operation
- The AES support, high storage capacity, low power consumption and compact form factor make the series ideal for applications such as:
1. high-end desktops
2. notebook PCs
3. video-editing or other multimedia applications

NEC Adds Two More PowerMate P Series PCs
NEC Adds Two More PowerMate P PCs
We popped by St Regis Hotel located at the Orchard Road stretch for NEC's launch of their two latest additions to the PowerMate family, the PowerMate P4000 and P6000. These all-in-one desktop PCs are NEC's answer to those who want a notebook and a desktop PC but can't decide on which they would rather prefer (and hence, the middle ground). Both PowerMates feature VESA wall mount capability, which means if you're starved for space, the wall will be your best friend.
The smaller $1,889 16-inch PowerMate P4000 on the right uses a AMD Athlon QL-60 processor, an integrated NVIDIA 9100M G graphics chipset and weighs in at just 4kg, which means if you want to move it around, you'll have no problems doing so. Also, the reason it's 16-inch is because the panel uses a 16:9 ratio (like TVs) as opposed to the normal 16:10 (normal widescreen monitors).
If you're not an AMD fan however, then the larger $2499 19-inch PowerMate P6000 uses an Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 processor with integrated NVIDIA 9300 graphcis will probably be more to your liking. However the P6000 is more than twice the weight of the P4000 at 8.6kg, but of course, you're getting a much bigger screen and better performance as a tradeoff.
Both units will be available next week at Best Denki, Newstead and AAAs Com Solution, but if you can't wait, here's some eye candy to tide you till then.

Samsung T*Omnia
Samsung OMNIA has a new cousin, dubbed the Samsung T*OMNIA. Ok, so no bonus points will be given for the weird naming of this updated OMNIA, but there's still lots more reason to drool over this new device: a larger 3.3-inch screen, 480 x 800 pixels WVGA screen, and to fit the Korean market, a DMB TV tuner to allow terrestial digital TV signals on the device. Tough luck for those of us outside of Korea, as the T*OMNIA will only be available for Korea. Why don't they release it to all other countries?
Found this nice article from
GSM Arena - The Samsung T*OMNIA comes with a larger 3.3-inch screen and four
times the pixels. There's also a DMB TV tuner on board for watching terrestrial
digital TV on the go. Of course the new T*OMNIA is larger than the original
standing at 115.2 x 58.1 x 13.65 mm but only marginally.
The Samsung
T*OMNIA is again running on WM 6.1 and has quad-band GSM support plus HSDPA.
Most of the other hardware specs are the same as those on the original Samsung
i900 Omnia except perhaps that they have now added the Samsung proprietary DNSe
audio technology.

Apple Jumps to #2 on Smartphone Sales
The iPhone 3G has been an undoubted hit, selling millions and making many millions more for Apple, but have you ever wondered how popular it exactly is? According to Canalys, a market research firm, Apple is now second in terms of overall smartphone sales, with a 17.3% share of the market. With over 7 million iPhone 3Gs sold, it handily beat RIM and its famed Blackberry models, which was in third place overall, garnering a 15.2% share of the market.
According to the
Ars Technica - Apple's success has a lot to do with the launch of its updated
iPhone 3G, which in addition to increasing data network speeds, has been
launched in many new markets. Indeed, the iPhone has expanded to 57 countries in
the past quarter. Sales of nearly 7 million 3G iPhones since the July 11 launch
also gave Apple a 2.3 percent share of the overall cellphone market.

Palm Treo Pro
Some may feel that the Windows Mobile market has of late been dominated by both HTC and Samsung with their latest offerings such as the HTC Touch Pro and the Samsung Omnia. However, there are actually many other alternatives out there for the picking. Palm, for one, is a name that should ring a bell with most tech enthusiasts, though the company has taken it slow and steady of late. With that said, the latest of its Treo series, the Palm Treo Pro gets a new look.
Wider Accuracy
The Treo Pro, from first glance, resembles the Palm Centro more than its other Treo siblings such as the Palm Treo 680 and Palm Treo 780. What we were pleased with, was that the Treo Pro gave more leeway in its horizontal dimension at 60mm as compared to the more compact Centro at 53.5mm. Though the added 6.5mm width was a good move, we still had some trouble with the QWERTY keyboard due to the close proximity of each key. More often than not, you'll be using your nails to get a better tactile feedback from the QWERTY keyboard. Further up, the Palm logo is placed right smack in the center of its five-way navigation pad, flanked by the Start, OK, Message and Calendar shortcuts and on the extreme edges, the Call and End buttons.
The Treo Pro did score quite well with us on several points. Firstly, the inclusion of a 3.5mm audio jack. This is a trait lacking in various Windows Mobile devices, where you'll either be utilizing a 2.5mm audio jack or even its USB port which requires you to unpack its propriety USB audio cable. The 3.5mm audio jack route gives consumers the flexibility and opportunity to enjoy a good soundtrack with their favorite audio peripherals.
Secondly, the Treo Pro comes with a few very useful shortcuts. For one, there's a dedicated Wi-Fi button on its right profile, and as its name suggest, it activates the device's Wi-Fi connectivity. The practicality lies in the fact that you'll have immediate access to your Wi-Fi connection, and conversely, you can switch it off quickly to increase the Treo Pro's battery stamina. At the top, there's a slider button that switches the device between its Normal and Silent profile, thus you can easily lower or even mute your device during meetings. Sufficient to Please
Looking at the Treo Pro's specifications, it's the usual suspects for a device of its category. Wireless connectivity such as Wi-Fi, HSDPA, GPS and Bluetooth 2.0 are there, all powered by a Qualcomm MSM7201 400MHz processor. Memory support on the Treo Pro is at best average, with 128MB RAM and 256MB ROM to handle the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional platform. To put things into perspective, we did a round of application tests on the Treo Pro, running Mobile Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and with Windows Media Player looping an audio track.
With the above mentioned applications set into motion, we noted that the Treo Pro received some slight lag in its application handling and switching. With a rated talk time of up to 5 hours using its 1500mAH battery, the Treo Pro handled itself well for almost up to two days of usage.
Rounding Up
Palm, once a dominant name in the PDA market, has gone through its ups and downs, and unfortunately, it's facing stiff competition from major manufacturers such as HTC and Samsung. In our opinion, the Palm Treo Pro has debuted too late and has too little to change the game. Nonetheless, the Treo Pro itself does not disappoint with its hardware delivery, but Palm has to find a niche for itself against the onslaught of devices armed to be faster, stronger and more appealing in its aesthetics.

HP Expands Mini PC Portfolio Designed for Mobility, Social Media and Fashion
Following the success of its mini PC introduced in April, HP today expanded the HP Mini family with three models of a new HP Mini 1000 line.
This array of minis – one of the widest offerings in the industry – addresses the needs of Internet-centric consumers, mobile professionals, always-on social media enthusiasts and fashion-forward women.
“Staying connected to your world – however you define it – is increasingly important to people on the go,” said Chin Hon Cheng, vice president, Notebook Business Unit, Personal Systems Group, HP Asia Pacific and Japan. “That’s why HP is excited to address this new high-growth market with a portfolio of head-turning mini companion PCs that are fun and easy to use.”
These companion PCs provide a simplified Internet experience in a sleek, ultra-portable design. Each is less than 1-inch thick, weighs a little more than 1kg (1) and has a keyboard that is 92 percent the size of a standard notebook PC keyboard. The HP Minis also come with a10.2” BrightView widescreen Infinity display (1,024 x 600 resolution) with flush glass and LED backlight, built-in webcam and microphone.
Powered by Intel Atom N270 1.6-gigahertz (GHz) processors,(2) HP Minis will be made available worldwide in an array of configure-to-order options. Mini PCs are geared toward information “snacking” and content enjoyment, versus the rich content-creation capabilities found in fully functional notebook PCs. They are a complement to HP’s award-winning families of notebook and desktop PCs.
The three models are as follows:
• The HP Mini 1000 features a piano-black finish with HP Imprint swirl design is pre-installed with Windows® XP Home, making access to the web,(3) critical files and PC applications easily portable. It includes an Ethernet jack, two USB ports, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® wireless capabilities.(3) Versions with 3.5G capabilities(3) are expected to be available in December.
Configuration choices include screen size – 8.9-inch or 10.2-inch diagonal BrightView display – and solid-state or mechanical hard-drive options.

Nokia's ONE Fighting Game For NGage
ONE for N-Gage, by Nokia Games Publishing, challenges its players to confront their opponents in a unique environment where different fighting techniques and styles are created by motion capture. ONE features 3D animation and high-quality graphics with customizable characters. It offers a head-to-head multiplayer experience in Bluetooth gaming allowing players to compete with each other, and share and compare their scores in the N-Gage Arena.
Recognized for its 3D performance, ONE is unique in mobile gaming as it takes advantage of motion capture techniques usually reserved for console games and movies. The movements of a real martial artist performing kicks and other moves have been recorded and used to animate the characters in ONE.
“Making ONE was a learning experience for me, both as a martial artist and as an artist studying shape and form,”, says Tommy Carruthers, the man behind the motion captured fighting techniques of ONE. He has over 30 years of experience in martial arts. “ONE connects the flow of motion into how the flow goes between two people. It’s a combination of forces that complement and work in union with each other”.
ONE players will be tested in various locations around the world, from the dark alleys of New York to the exotic beaches of the Caribbean. High-quality 3D graphics enables players to see even movements of the fighters’ clothes. There are altogether 30 opponents to fight against, in seven different locations, and an online world ranking system that shows who the true ONE is.
ONE is now available at www.n-gage.com launching together with a global online tournament hosted by N-Gage Arena.
