Riding the Portégé
Toshiba's latest addition to the Portégé series, the M700, is a convertible notebook targeted more towards an education and corporate audience, but without any compromise in features or performance.
Deceiving Appearance
Despite its rather thick and dull appearance, the M700 is unusually light at 2.1kg, battery included. Built on Toshiba's proprietary EasyGuard technology, sporting a 12.1-inch backlit LED screen display together with a full-powered Intel Centrino Duo processor, the M700 packs the latest in technology from Toshiba. HSDPA however, is still not yet a standard issue nor an option and customers looking for it would require their own add-ons or hunt for another notebook.
Although the M700 has a more power efficient and brighter display due to its use of LED technology (which enables manufacturing of thinner display panels), the cover of the notebook was intentionally made thicker to ensure lasting use even under less than desirable circumstances. The main chassis of the M700 is constructed from magnesium alloy instead of plastic materials for better strength and durability. The M700 also comes with a similar screen hinge design as the older R400 tablet and there are two additional latches at the side edges to lock the screen in place, even under extreme movements.
Convincing Features
Inside, the M700 features a hard disk mounted on a shock-resistant casing to prevent data loss and corruption while on the go. There is also an accelerometer-based protection system to lock the hard disk read/write arms when shock is experienced. However, the word 'shock' has to be taken relatively. From our tests with the notebook, the sensitivity of accelerometer is too strong, to the extent that carrying the notebook from one desk to another would lock the HDD for safety. While there is an option to turn off the accelerometer protection, we would rather have it just a tad less sensitive instead.
As a business oriented notebook, the M700 also comes with a full set of security features, which includes a fingerprint sensor and TPM securty chip. These work together with Toshiba's security suite installed to encrypt information.
For a tablet notebook, the M700 has a new trick up its sleeve. Besides a regular tablet screen that requires the use of a stylus, the M700 also supports a touchscreen interface, which makes it more flexible and user friendly to use since you can now touch the screen directly to navigate. Although we still found it more accurate to use the stylus, touch input was no less responsive.
For our review unit, the M700 came with the optional DVD writer, standard voltage based 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 CPU, Intel 965GM chipset with GMA X3100 graphics, 1GB of RAM and a 120GB HDD, running Windows Vista Business Edition. The notebook also features a 1.3-megapixel webcam, three USB 2.0 ports, a mini-FireWire, Ethernet and a VGA-out ports. In addition, the USB ports on the left bezel features Toshiba's Plug-and-Charge, which works even when the notebook is switched off.

Canon: Shooting With The Big Boys
Out of 300 passionate photographers, only two made it to the top. Joel Garcia and George Cabig won a once in a lifetime chance to train with top photographer, Triston Yeo, in Kyushu, Japan. This was the most coveted prize of the Canon Photo Marathon 2007, held last year in celebration of Canon’s 10th anniversary in the Philippines.
Joel Garcia, content manager for a telecommunications firm, and a newbie in using a professional EOS digital SLR, considered himself an underdog during the photo contest. But he surprised himself and his colleagues as he emerged the overall grand prize winner besting all other photographers and winning a brand new Canon EOS 40D, with his photo entitled “Bandila.“
“Having won the Canon Photo Marathon and being given the opportunity to join the Photo Clinic in Japan were great achievements for me. Learning from Triston Yeo was amazing!” described Garcia. “I’m so glad I got the chance to use my new Canon EOS 40D in Kyushu, where the amazing landscapes, rich culture and unique people made it such an interesting place to photograph. With Canon’s powerful EOS technology and the Kyushu setting, my photographs exceeded my expectations!”
George Cabig, professional travel photographer and 2nd place winner of the Canon Photo Marathon 2007, had a different experience at the photo clinic. “Photography is more than just a hobby for me. It is my bread and butter,” explained Cabig. “The photo clinic really showed me the possibilities I could still achieve with my photos. It expanded my range in photography in terms of taking more risks in shooting and expanding my interest for subjects other than landscape photography. I am forever grateful to Canon Philippines for giving me this opportunity.”
The top winners of the Photo Marathons held in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan and The Philippines formed the Asian contingent for the Photo Clinic in Kyushu, Japan. World-class photographers, Triston Yeo and Alex So, led the five-day workshop, which included lectures and on-site photography where participants explored in the sites of Kyushu to take photos that were later discussed and critiqued by Yeo and So.
“We are glad that Joel and George had a great time in Japan and learned new techniques to improve their photography skills,” said Margie Escueta, Assistant Manager for corporate strategy, Canon Marketing (Philippines), Inc. “We developed the Photo Marathon and Photo Clinic activities to provide more value and to delight our loyal customers. We are committed to enriching the Canon user’s experience with our products, our company, our activities and our service.

Notebook LCD
How important is our notebook LCD Screen? Do you know how much it cost to replace a new one? It is extremely expensive. So an invisible shield is needed to protect it. A thin and polyurethane film can be used to protect it. It can withstand the weight up to 1000 pounds!
I’m cheating! Take a look at this invisibleSHIELD video.

Nokia N96 ~ Extraordinary Phone from Nokia
Just last week, Nokia announced its Nseries N96 to public, with this release, it finally close up all the rumours spreading around the world about this N96.
What are special with this N96?
This N96 almost having the same outlook with N95, the build-in camera is same as N95, 5 megapixels. Dual LED flash light in stead of one in N95. If compared to N82, N82 took over advantage with its xenon flash which have brighter and powerful flash. But for this N96, there is no cover to close up the lens when the camera is not in use, it will increase the risk for scratching of lens.
This N96 having build in 16gb memory storage and 256mb RAM for its operating system. With it, it can guarantee the fast operating speed, and you need not worry about storage memory insufficiency. If 16gb are not enough for you, there is a swapable slot for MicroSD, you can extend up the memory with MicroSD card. Maybe MicroSDHC is supported.
N96 enable you to watch tv programs on it, it has build in tv-tuner on board. It is extremely ideal for travellers that they can watch tv programs with it.
What else, N96 using the S60 3rd edition Feature Pack 2, it is the latest feature pack, most probably, N96 is the 1st phone using that. The interface will be different.
As a conclusion, this phone is superb and the market price will be extremely high. It will be better that if cover for lens is present, increased of megapixel and image stablizing mode.

Last night, there are 15 of us who stayed back in Kursk (unlike other who are richer going back home or travelling around the world) gather together to have a Reunion Dinner for Chinese New Year. We were trying to create the atmosphere same like back home, but unfortunately the 'feel' can't be created.
Each one of us prepare a dish to this Re-union Dinner aka pot-luck. At 1st only 8 of us, but later it became 15 of us. hoho..
The total dishes we had. There are more than 20 dishes (including the sauces and rice)

Sony Cybershot W120

Aim, Ready, Shoot
Compact digital cameras have always been a popular choice for simple point and shoot photography, but recent advancements have made it possible for professional-like imaging even on the humble compact. Enter Sony's updated W-series Cyber-shot digital cameras, with beautiful aesthetics and imaging prowess packed in a comfortable, lightweight design.
Pocketful of High Definition Comfort
The new DSC-W120 conforms to the hands easily with its slim 22mm dimensions and light weight of only 123g (without battery). With such svelte figures, it also slips easily into the bag or pocket.
In terms of user friendliness, the DSC-W120 comes with a comfortable 2.5-inch LCD screen, and an intuitive navigation system that allows you to make all the necessary settings adjustments such as image sizes, white balance, ISO, face detection priority and many others. A dial wheel on the back of the body is used to switch between shooting modes.
The DSC-W120 boasts an effective 7.2-megapixel resolution and with the current high definition (HD) trend, it also finds itself outfitted with integrated HD support that includes snapping images in proper 16:9 ratio. This imaging mode allows full screen viewing on a HDTV with the aid of a HD component cable. Take note that a HD ready image would require at least 2MB per image, which will be an additional overhead on available storage on your Memory Stick.
Smile, you're on Sony Camera!
Making its debut on the DSC-W120 is Sony's very own Smile Shutter technology. Smile Shutter compliments Face Detection technology by firing the shutter only when a smile is registered on the face of your subject(s).Varying levels of smile detection sensitivity can be adjusted, from the smallest tweak of the lips (High) to a big and jovial smile (Low), giving you some form of control over the feature. Beyond human photography, the DSC-W120 is quick to impress with its fast responsive time for image processing, aided in part by its BIONZ imaging processing engine. A few test shots revealed its ability to automatically tweak red-eye reduction, exposure, contrast and even skin-tones on differing adult and children subjects.
Truth be told though, running the DSC-W120 on auto mode is more than sufficient for your daily photography needs. There is also no need to worry about low lighting conditions as Sony has bumped up sensitivity support as high as ISO 3200, and its Super SteadyShot image stabilizer becomes a great help when shooting at lower shutter speeds. Of course, when all else fails, you can still rely on the built-in flash, which is surprisingly quite powerful for its size.

Business with Rat Year
One of my friend, he decided to start his own business during this Chinese New Year, someone told him that this year is his lucky year, it is better to start his own business to earn the most for it. He tried to ask for small business loans from banks, but none of the banks approved them due to insufficiency of background supports. He is very sad, I told him that on net now, there is a company giving out small business loans, the amount allowed is very big and almost no requirements and no hidden charges, very fast approval and most important is lowest interest rate you can get! He decided for a trial and his small business loans are approved. Now he is happy with it.

Chinese New Year Eve
Just another few more hours will be our Chinese New Year; it is one of the biggest festivals among all Chinese in the world. During these day, all Chinese no matter where they are, will joy up together, greeting each other with nice phrase for example ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai” meaning wish you earn lots of money. Besides, there are several traditions practiced by Chinese during these few days, for example, you cannot sweep your floors, it is believed that you will sweep off your all your ‘money’. There are lots more, though now less and less people practice on it, still have quite a few number of people having such tradition. Last night, one of my friends told me that, today he need to throw plates onto floor just to listen the cracking sound, because it sounds like coins dropping on money, the more you throw, the more money you will have.
No forgetting the gambling parts, Chinese during this few days will have a small casino at home, betting among each other. This year, I introduce to my friends to have online casinos, so that we can play with more people around the world, more fun it will be. We might have poker or slot or some other else in Casino Joyland. How about you? Do you gamble during Chinese New Year? Let join together at Joyland Casinos.

The world’s leading smartphone software S60 extends leadership with six new devices
-More than 150 million S60 devices shipped to date
Mobile World Congress 2008, Barcelona, Spain/Espoo, Finland – S60 software, developed by Nokia, is licensed to some of the world’s leading mobile phone manufacturers including LG Electronics, Nokia and Samsung. Today at the Mobile World Congress, these licensees announced six new devices based on S60 3rd Edition complementing their device portfolios and leveraging the next wave of Internet experience and usability enhancements.
“Consumers are increasingly demanding intuitive Internet experiences and S60 on Symbian OS is ideally positioned to deliver compelling devices for a wide range of market segments. We are delighted to see new S60 devices launched by these leading manufacturers,” said Matti Vänskä, Vice President, Mobile Software Sales & Marketing, Nokia. “S60 strategy is to give consumers choice and simplicity, delivering the best consumer experiences that allow their mobile devices to add real value to their lives.”
LG announced LG-KT610, the sleek new device powered with HSDPA connectivity and GPS navigation capabilities. Nokia N96, Nokia N78, Nokia 6220 classic and Nokia 6210 Navigator all exhibit different location based and multimedia experiences from pedestrian navigation to geotagging and movie viewing to video and photo sharing. Samsung G810, with with a 5 megapixel camera, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, allows users to enjoy multimedia features at higher data download speeds.
Today’s announcements bring the total number of S60 devices launched to 73. Over 150 million S60 devices had cumulatively been shipped by S60 licensees by the end of January 2008. Over third of these are S60 3rd Edition.
“Nokia is the global leader in smartphones and multimedia computers and S60 offers us expanding possibilities to further improve the segmented product offering and innovation in Internet services”, says Soren Petersen,” Senior Vice President, Category Management, Devices, Nokia. “Our new product introductions will increase the use of Internet services and allow consumers to easily and intuitively enjoy the wide offering of services from mobile operators and other Internet players.”
S60 has already shipped on more smartphones than any other platform, enabling users to access and enjoy the Internet and Internet services. S60 covers the broadest product portfolio, with devices for a variety of segments and needs from different audiences. S60 is the clear leader in converged device software with over 53 % market share globally in Q4 2007 according to the latest Canalys report (January 2008).
S60 is further strengthening the collaboration with key network operators to enable new services cross a wide range of S60 devices. Nokia today announced software collaboration with Telefónica Spain to advance third party applications on S60 devices in their portfolio.
"Telefónica wants to enable consumer’s ease of use and multiplicity of applications. We also want differentiation that supports our strong brand. S60 gives us the best possibilities to achieve this, and together with all other contributors to S60, we can drive innovation and new service paradigms," said Luis Ezcurra, Devices and Multimedia Director, Telefónica Spain.
Nokia has earlier announced collaboration with Orange to facilitate device customization and strengthen the role of S60 devices in Orange’s device portfolio. This collaboration is proceeding well.

How are you going to prepare your frozen chicken? Are you going to take it out and put into microwave to defrost it and eat it like caveman? Eat the chicken fresh? Or you want to be modern caveman where they put their chicken into flame and eat it. It is extremely nice! It is actually same like grilling chicken. Try it these weekends with your family.

LG will begin offering the LG Viewty in Dark Silver in addition the current black model. LG chose this new colour to further the LG Viewty's polished, premium image, after researching colour preferences in countries where the phone is sold and colour trend forecasts for 2008.
"The new dark silver option will reach out to a wider audience who favour new trends and also gives buyers an opportunity to select a handset that best reflects their personality and style," said Mr. Jae Bae, Managing Director of LG Electronics Singapore.
The LG Viewty Dark Silver boasts a 5.0 megapixel camera, 3-inch touch-screen, 120 frames-per-second video camera, HSDPA, 170MB of internal memory, media player, TV-out and MicroSD connectivity.
The LG Viewty Dark Silver will be available locally at major mobile phone retail outlets from Feb 2008 priced at $838 (without plan)

HP Unveils Network Software to Help Telecoms Build Customer Loyalty with Personalized Services
Hutchison 3G Austria selects HP OpenCall HLR to support mobile customers
HP announced two software solutions that help telecom operators harness customer information to deliver personalized services that promote customer loyalty and lead to increased revenue.
The company also announced that rapidly growing European operator, Hutchison 3G Austria, has successfully deployed the HP OpenCall Home Location Register (HLR) to support all wireless users of its popular “3” brand of high-speed services. The implementation is expected to double customer capacity and cut costs.
HP OpenCall Profile Manager
Typically in a mobile network, there are multiple, disparate and often duplicated customer databases, each with a single facet of the overall customer profile. As a result, operators at any given moment have had a fragmented and inconsistent view of an individual customer. This makes managing existing services and deploying new ones more costly and time consuming.
HP OpenCall Profile Manager addresses this problem by providing operators with an efficient means to create a real-time, unified view of the customer. It federates previously isolated databases in real time, providing the means to ensure data consistency across the various “silos” traditionally associated with network elements or service applications. As a focal point for accessing and sharing subscriber data, the software also makes centralized service provisioning practical and cost effective.
With a unified customer profile across its application portfolio, an operator can more affordably deploy new personalized services based on a customer’s subscription, physical location, social communities and known preferences.
HP Service Governance Framework
As operators encourage thousands of non-telecom developers to create innovative services, they need rigorous governance to ensure that services adhere to network policies for management, security and control. The HP Service Governance Framework (SGF) addresses this need by ensuring that services, including those delivered via the web, comply with network policies.
The HP SGF builds on the service-oriented architecture (SOA) technologies of the HP Service Delivery Platform 2.0, which provides a single framework that enables operators to integrate telecom, web and enterprise resources into converged services.
In addition to comprehensive management capabilities, HP SGF offers a registration portal for third-party developers to integrate Web 2.0 services, a change of contracts facility between applications and services, and real-time policy enforcement.
By facilitating a large number of customer services securely and rapidly, the HP SGF contributes to the operator goal of building customer loyalty.
“Operators recognize the growing importance of customer loyalty – and this is playing to HP’s strengths in transforming customer data into valuable business information,” said Sebastiano Tevarotto, vice president and general manager, Communications, Media and Entertainment, HP. “HP OpenCall software and the HP Service Delivery Platform are helping operators take advantage of their greatest asset – the network – to deliver innovative services that are going to excite customers and keep them loyal.”
Hutchison 3G Austria deploys HP OpenCall HLR
The HP OpenCall HLR functions as the foundation of a telecom operator's customer data management infrastructure by linking individual information (identity, settings, status and authentication) with network routing information. This allows each customer to receive complete voice and data services while on the move.
Hutchison 3G Austria’s high-speed services include voice; text messaging; multimedia content such as music, videos and mobile TV; and Internet access. With the HP OpenCall HLR, the company expects to be able to double customer capacity, ensure continuous network availability and add specific, cost-saving functionalities for core network resources.
“We selected HP because they brought a unique combination of mobile network expertise, products and an understanding of IT cost structure and flexibility,” said Jan Trionow, chief technical officer of Hutchison 3G Austria, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa Limited in Hong Kong. “With the HP OpenCall HLR, H3G Austria can accommodate rapid growth and still support customers with reliable service and a steady flow of innovative, multimedia mobile services.”
The HP OpenCall HLR is currently deployed by 36 operators on five continents, managing subscriber databases for more than 220 million wireless subscribers.
HP at Mobile World Congress, Feb. 11-14, Barcelona, Spain
At the Mobile World Congress, HP will feature a wide range of HP and partner solutions for the network and service provider industry at its pavilion in Hall 8 in the Fira.
