FOXCONN Launches Second Green G45-based Motherboard

FOXCONN GREEN Series Motherboard combines energy efficiency and HD graphics Energy efficient computing in high definition

FOXCONN today launched the second motherboard in its expanding GREEN Series, with the G45MG based on the Intel G45 chipset.

First demonstrated at CeBIT 2008, the new GREEN Series range affords system builders, resellers and end users the capability to configure highly energy efficient computing solutions for business and home use. Innovative power management technologies combine to reward users with a significantly lower TCO (total cost of ownership) without adversely affecting system performance.

Completed by the GREEN Series power supply GPS300AB, the new motherboard and power supply in combination deliver incredible reductions in energy consumption for home and business users.

The G45MG launched today includes the integrated Intel X4500HD graphics core and support for the latest Intel Core2 Quad and Core2 Duo processors up to 95W power rating and up to 1600(o.c)/1333MHz FSB. Up to 8GB of Dual Channel DDR3 1333MHz memory can be installed, bringing improved memory performance to business and mainstream home computers.

Ready for high-definition video

The G45MG is a highly capable integrated HD graphics platform, ready to play Blu-Ray and HD DVD content without upgrading the onboard graphics. The integrated Intel GMA 4500HD graphics processor not only includes encoding/decoding technologies for HD video, but also provides DirectX 10 graphics for the latest games titles. With 3.0X the 3D performance of the Intel G33 chipset and and 1.7X the 3D performance of the Intel G35 Express chipset graphics, the list of playable games has grown significantly, saving many home users the additional cost of installing a dedicated graphics card.

The onboard HDMI output means users can easily user their system as a home media centre running with a HD-ready television or monitor.

3G technologies

The new motherboard includes FOXCONN’s proprietary 3G technologies which are designed to reduce power consumption, typically by around 68%*.

3G technologies comprise of GPS (Green Power Saving), GoD (Green on Demand) and GSM (Green System Mode).

GPS reduces power consumption in standby or ‘power off’ mode by around 99.4% by combining with the GREEN Series GPS300AB power supply, which significantly reduces the power draw from the computer.

GPS300AB can achieve at least minimum 80% efficiency under any condition

,and also delivers power savings by operating with higher efficiency under heavy and low loading, and can deliver up to 300W of power when required. When in GPS mode,GPS300AB is very small input power(less than 1W),and have good performance in ripple and noise.

GoD technology intelligently manages the multi-phase power distribution on the motherboard, reducing the number of power phases in operation during low-loading periods, and increasing the number of phases when the computer is under heavy loading. This technique improves energy efficiency when the computer is operational, especially during light usage, where energy savings from single-phase power distribution are significant.

Finally GSM (Green System Mode) combines a number of BIOS and system settings to further enhance energy efficiency in all usage states.

Test Specification

CPU: Intel Q6850. Memory: MICRON 2GB. HDD: MAXTOR SATA 250GB. Power supply: Samsung 280W. Onboard VGA. Only connect KB/MS and one HDD

Tests conducted in FOXCONN laboratories and demonstrated at Computex 2008 have shown typical energy savings of around 69%* for an office PC scenario, where the system may be powered off or in standby mode for a large part of any 24hr period, and running under light loading for much of the day, with intermittent heavier loading. A family ‘home PC’ usage scenario has demonstrated even greater savings – around 85.1%, with the PC in standby or ‘power off’ mode for most of the day.

A large business with 200 PCs would make significant financial savings from GREEN Series technology. Based on an energy cost of US$0.30 per kWh and a 24hr usage profile of 15hrs standby/power off, 7hrs idle and 2hrs heavy loading (averaged), the annual financial saving would total around US$5,000.

Commenting on today’s launch, Eric Chu, Product Manager for GREEN Series motherboards said; “G45MG combines the latest high-definition video technologies with energy-efficient management systems to deliver great performance and value for business and mainstream home users. GREEN Series motherboards are the only solution to deliver energy savings in all power and usage states.”

G45MG also includes FOX Energy Management, which controls system and CPU power management technologies from a simple Windows application and also enables one-touch overclocking.

In addition to the power-saving technologies, FOXCONN have bundled FOCUS (advanced audio calibration software) and FoxOne™ technology, for easy system monitoring(temperatures, fans speeds, voltages ) and automatic overclocking

G45MG also use 100% SOLID Capacitor design to improve component reliability, by replacing electrolytic capacitors with solid versions; this removes the risk of capacitor failure damaging the PCB and surrounding components, whilst improving overall system performance and stability. Solid capacitors are much more durable than standard electrolytic versions, typically lasting around 6 times longer and withstanding higher operating temperatures.

Other features include integrated 7.1 channel HD audio, Gigabit LAN, 6* SATAII connectors with Intel Matrix Storage Technology and RAID, 1* IEEE1394a (FireWire), 12* USB2.0,1* HDMI, 1*TPM Header and a graphics upgrade path via the PCIe2.0 x16 slot.

* All power savings depend upon usage pattern and exact system configuration.
